Lovely artwork has been pouring in from young patients and school children tasked with designing a card for all the staff at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.

And a Year 7 student from Greenwich, actually the daughter of two NHS workers herself, has been named the winner of the Christmas competition.

A delighted Sabrina Jacob, of the St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive School in south east London, was presented with a framed print of her design after the winner was announced.

Sabrina said: “I felt very happy, shocked and excited when I heard that my design was chosen.

"I drew that image because I wanted to thank the NHS for all their hard work in the fight against coronavirus.

"At Christmas I wanted them to be gifted, through my artwork, with something that has meaning, something that comes from my heart.

"I wanted them to know that they are our "caped" inspiration, our knights in shining armour, and our modern-day heroes. Thank you NHS from the bottom of my tiny heart.”

Val Davison, Chair of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, and Ben Travis, Chief Executive, sent a video message and thank you letter to Sabrina.

“We received lots of wonderful designs from local children, but yours really won us over; we particularly love the way that you showed staff having lots of fun around the Christmas tree, while incorporating the rainbow which symbolises the nation's love for the NHS. Congratulations for creating such an inspiring Christmas card.”

Sabrina’s proud parents both work as imaging technologists at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust respectively.

They said: “We are not just proud of Sabrina's achievement, but also feel blessed to have a very talented daughter.

"As NHS workers it is heart-warming to know how much she appreciates our hard work and that of all our NHS colleagues in this very challenging time.

"Somehow it makes our heavy load lighter and inspires us to work even harder and never give up because there are many young minds like her’s who care for and appreciate the NHS workers.”

Mr Sharp, Sabrina's headteacher at the St Thomas More Catholic Comprehensive School, added: “We were absolutely delighted to hear Sabrina’s Christmas card was selected.

"Her design was fantastic; we are extremely proud of her. We know the impact Sabrina’s card has had too as we have received messages congratulating our young artist from family or friends who work for the Trust.”
