Three people were arrested at Lewisham station, police said today (Tuesday, January 25) as the British Transport Police (BTP) targeted offenders passing through the busy transport hub.

BTP London posted images to Twitter on Tuesday evening showing their operation at the station, with officers seen detaining one of the three individuals in handcuffs arrested in the swoop.

The transport police in London said that the arrests were made in connection to a number of offences, including assaulting an emergency worker.

"The Proactive Metro Team carried out a planned op #AVARA at #Lewisham station along with @MPSBexley, @MPSWelling and @Se_Railway," a spokesperson wrote in the tweet announcing the arrests.

"Three people were arrested, offences include;

"Possession of a knife

"Assault an emergency worker

"Possession with intent to supply drugs," they added.

The news came just hours after it was revealed that BTP's colleagues in the Met Police were investigating an assault against a firefighter who was helping bring a flat fire in Croydon under control.
