The driver of car found abandoned on top of a railway line in north Kent has been arrested.

The car was found dumped on the railway near Stone Crossing on Saturday night (January 23) in an dangerous act of stupidity.

According to Network Rail Kent & Sussex, emergency services had to rush to the scene to prevent disaster, removing the car from the railway track.

A search was launched in the surrounding area for the driver, with Kent Police Specials aiding the search.

British Transport Police then revealed that a person linked to the abandoned vehicle had been taken into police custody later on Sunday after having been arrested for the obstruction of the railway.

The suspect will be interviewed by officers today (January 25).

Kent Police added that it was "very lucky no one involved was injured."
