It was not the best year for most, but 2020 saw a large number of suspects brought to justice for horrific crimes, among those some of worst sex offenders in the country.

Whilst everyday life was badly affected by the pandemic, the courts were busy sentencing a variety of offenders to jail time, with the News Shopper reporting on their cases.

Dozens were put behind bars, but perhaps the worst to be sentenced are the sex offenders, paedophiles and rapists.

Their stories are not pleasant, but thanks to the excellent work of London police forces, those responsible for these crimes are now behind bars.

Below is a list of the most noteworthy cases that saw people jailed for various sex offences during 2020.

Aaron McWilliams

News Shopper:

McWilliams, 28, is described by Met Police as "manipulative, cold, calculating and highly dangerous to young people."

The convicted paedophile currently behind bars in HMP Belmarsh has been sentenced to life after he used his position as a live-in au pair to abuse dozens of children.

Already convicted as a child abuser in Bromley, the 28-year-old man has now admitted to 40 further offences including rape against more than 20 young victims in "one of the most serious child abuse cases Met Police have seen."

Aron Mortlock

News Shopper:

Mortlock is a repeat Lewisham sex offender who uploaded child pornography of an extreme nature online despite being under supervision. He has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

Khaled Argoub

News Shopper:

This violent man who made up a twin to use as a scapegoat for the attempted rape he had committed has been jailed for 22 years.

Khaled Argoub, 21, of Garratt Terrace in Tooting, stalked his victim before dragging her to Wandle Park in Colliers Wood where he choked and attempted to rape her.

George Wallace

News Shopper:

Wallace, 26, broke into a 58-year-old woman's High Street flat through a bathroom window shortly and attempted to rape her.

He was found guilty of of attempted rape and trespass with intent to commit a sexual offence and sentenced to nine years in prison this week.

Danut Bulboana

News Shopper:

Danut Bulboana "preyed on the vulnerability of a lone woman" near Catford Bridge Station as she made her way home after a night out.

He was convicted of two counts of rape and attempting to suffocate with intent following a trial at Woolwich Crown Court and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

William Trotter

News Shopper:

A 'sexual predator' who hit a teenage girl over the head before dragging her into some bushes and raping her in Orpington was convicted in December.

Trotter, 39, of Dagonet Road, Bromley, has been found guilty of rape and kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence following a 12-day trial.

Sentenced to life imprisonment, to serve a minimum of 12 years.

Sola Austin Warikwah

News Shopper:

The Deptford security guard raped a woman who mistook his car for a mini-cab while on duty..

Sola Austin Warikwah, 39, of Albyn Road, appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Thursday, December 17, where he was jailed for seven years for rape, having been found guilty in September.

Osman Suleyman

News Shopper:

Found unanimously guilty of violently beating and raping a woman in Charlton, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison.

Detectives described it as "one of the most shocking cases we've ever dealt with" due to the violence used by Osman Suleyman, 31, of no address.

Desmond Atumkeze

 

The 23-year-old from Thamesmead was sentenced to 15 years and two months in prison in June 11 at Woolwich Crown Court.

He had previously pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and kidnapping after attacking a woman by a canal in Thamesmead in a ski mask.

Carl Spencer

News Shopper:

Spencer, 31, of Havelock Road, engaged in conversations with several girls, aged between 12 and 13, on a messaging app.

The paedophile, from Bromley, was described as a "dangerous and prolific offender who repeatedly targeted young girls."

At Basildon Crown Court he was jailed for a total of four years and eight months on March 5.

Joshua Dee

This Lewisham man has been sentenced for multiple sexual offences committed against a 13-year-old he met at a youth club.

Dee, 21, was found guilty of sexual activity with a child, sexual touching of a child, and sexual communication with a child.

He was sentenced to a 24-month community order, a rehabilitation order of 30 days, 100 hours unpaid work and £250 compensation to the victim at Woolwich Crown Court.

Graham Robert Mead

News Shopper:

The 46-year-old of Portnalls Road has been sentenced to over 30 months in jail after he was found guilty of a number of child sex offences.

He dmitted arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, making an indecent photograph of a child, and three offences of taking indecent images of a child, Surrey Police said.

Jordan Moore

News Shopper:

Moore, from Croydon, targeted a 14-year-old girl using social media before raping her in the car park of New Milton Cricket Club.

Moore, 24, wept as he was jailed for six years and six months, and will remain as a sex offender for life.

The victim described the event on September 18, 2018, in Fernhill Lane as the worst thing that had ever happened to her.

Alan Mackey

 

Alan Mackey, 37, of London Road in Croydon, was convicted after a trial at Kingston Crown Court which concluded on December 13 last year.

The Croydon man was sentenced to 23 years in prison at the same court on Thursday (January 30).
