LONG-awaited improvements to Halstead High Street are due to come back into the spotlight next week.

Halstead Town Council is set to discuss the scheme put forward by Braintree and Essex County councils during a meeting on Monday.

Councillors have been asked to approve the upgrade and set up a working group to help Braintree Council with the finer details.

The scheme will include the upgrading of street lighting, street furniture, pavements, as well as the installation of a refuge at the top of the High Street to assist residents in crossing the street.

Plans to improve Halstead High Street have been in the pipeline for several years now but have been continually delayed since they were first put forward in 2014.

It is understood funding for the scheme is available and the majority of costs would be covered by Braintree Council.

Members of the public will be able to watch Monday’s meeting, which is taking place virtually on Zoom, from 7.15pm.
