A mugger who chased, stabbed and shot a man for his Rolex watch in Greenwich has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for murder.

Danny Pearce, 28, was killed in front of his girlfriend as they came home from a night out at Oliver's Jazz Club in south east London back in 2017.

It emerged that David Egan, 24, and Jordan Bailey-Mascoll, 26, took turns stabbing Mr Pearce when he refused to hand over his luxury timepiece on King William Walk on 15 July, three years ago.

Egan was last week week found guilty of murder, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a firearm and robbery, and on Monday, December 7, was sentenced to 35 years in jail at Inner London Crown Court.

Egan was also convicted of two further robberies in July 2017 as well as possession of an offensive weapon and having an imitation firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Detective Inspector Jo Sidaway said: “This was a truly horrific attack on an innocent man who had the rest of his life ahead of him. The level of violence shown towards him was shocking.

“Danny’s family will have to spend the rest of their lives without him and while I know today’s sentence won’t bring him back, I hope it does give them some closure.”

The detective added that Danny’s watch has not been found, and police would like to speak with anyone who has been offered a silver Rolex, worth around £5,000.

Egan appeared via video-link from HMP Belmarsh, sitting at a desk, wearing a hoodie with his hands on his lap as he was sentenced.

Danny Pearce's sister Amanda said in her victim impact statement read to the court: "Danny left behind his living family friend girlfriend, and most importantly his daughter 'They say that time's a healer, not in our case.

"Life really does seem to be getting harder. We have gone through shock, pain and heartache, and prayed so hard that he could just come back.

"He had life in front of him, his plans, dreams. He was a lover of life.

"David Egan has committed the most evil of crimes and we will live with this forever."

Danny Pearce, who leaves behind a young daughter, was walking with his girlfriend and two friends to a parked car on King William Walk having left a jazz club on Nevada Street on July 15, 2017.

Shortly after midnight, he was confronted by two men who demanded his Rolex watch.

When Danny refused, he was chased and trapped by the suspects who repeatedly stabbed him as he lay defenceless. The whole attack was witnessed by his terrified friends and partner.

Danny was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards despite the efforts of paramedics and police to save him.

A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as multiple stabbings, but police also found gunshot grazing and evidence of at least four shots fired in Danny's direction as he attempted to flee.

An investigation was launched by homicide detectives from the Specialist Crime Command.

Egan was identified as a suspect, and following a number of enquiries, he was charged on Saturday, 9 May.
