South Chingford once boasted an Odeon cinema that opened in 1935.
Architect Andrew Mather designed a splendid exterior, clad in cream-grey terracotta tiles, which was dominated by a massive New York skyline tower.
Containing 1,400 seats it was renamed 'The Classic' in 1967 but sadly demolished in 1972 to make way for a block of flats and a succession of supermarkets now occupied by Poundstretcher.
