ALMOST 400 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Sussex, according to the latest figures.

Data from Public Health England released today shows 98 further cases were recorded in Brighton and Hove in the past 24 hours. Since the pandemic hit, 3,197 people have tested positive in the city.

The rate of infection in Brighton and Hove stands at 1,099 cases per 100,000 people, which remains lower than the England average of 1,962.

In East Sussex, cases increased by 101, bringing the total number recorded there to 3,959. West Sussex reported 197 new cases, and in total 7,318 people have now tested positive since the virus hit.

One coronavirus death was reported by East Sussex Healthcare Trust in the latest 24-hour reporting period, bringing its total number of fatalities to 108.

The total number for Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust remains the same at 172, while Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has recorded 132 deaths.

Across the UK there were 33,470 new cases recorded, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,290,195.

Data on the number of UK deaths was not available due to a delay in processing, Public Health England said.
