Gravesend's iconic Clock Tower will not be lit up red for Remembrance Sunday this year, nor for Diwali, after vandals targeted and smashed in its lights.
Pictures have emerged of the tower's lights smashed in, and a Gravesham councillor has called the violence a "mindless act."
The Gravesend Clock Tower on Milton Road in north Kent normally lights up for Remembrance Sunday, and to celebrate Diwali, but those events have now been cancelled.
Gravesham Council has said it is now waiting for replacement parts to arrive, but these won't arrive for some time.
Cllr Shane Mochrie-Cox, the council's cabinet member for community and leisure, said in a statement: "We are disappointed that a mindless act means we cannot light the Clock Tower for two such important dates.
"We are doing all we can to identify those responsible, and when we do we will seek a prosecution for criminal damage and to recover the costs of repairs.
"We will not tolerate acts such as this."
