Police have today charged a man with murder after the body of a woman was found in a home in Eltham on Friday.

Detectives have also named the victim as 39-year-old Sarah Smith from Greenwich.

Ricky Woodford, of Henwick Road, has today (November 4) been charged with murder - it is believed Ms Smith and the defendant were known to each other.

Police at around 10:24am on Friday, October 30 to concerns for the welfare of the occupants of a residential address.

Officers attended Henwick Road, in Eltham, south east London.

Inside, the body of a woman was found. A post-mortem examination conducted since then at the Greenwich Mortuary has concluded the cause of death to be head injuries.

Although formal identification awaits, Met officers are confident that the victim is Sarah Smith, a 39-year-old from Greenwich.

Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Woodford, 41, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder, and he was taken to hospital prior to being taken into police custody.

Detectives from the Met's Specialist Crime Command (Homicide) are investigating.
