A new night-time digital image has been released of the £3.5bn London Resort, dubbed the 'UK's answer to Disneyland, as bosses reveal the results to its public consultation.

The new aerial rendering of the theme park offers a teasing glimpse of the rides and attractions, including rollercoasters, waterparks, theatres, ferry terminals and an immersive e-sports centre.

The London Resort is one of Europe's most ambitious theme park projects ever, and is set to open its first site on the Swanscombe Peninsula, Kent, in 2024.

When complete, the park will be three times larger than any other park in the UK, built across 535 acres, and will be the first European development of its kind to be built from scratch since the opening of Disneyland Paris in 1992.

It now appears the project, which has had a bumpy ride since it was first announced in 2012, is now one step closer to going ahead after a successful consultation with local people and businesses.

The first results of the public consultation were released on Monday, October 12, and bosses said they had received "overwhelming public support".

The headline statistics include 73% of people saying they supported the project's approach to the environment and biodiversity, and 65% agreed the London Resort would benefit the local area in the longer term.

“Getting to this point has not been easy,” said PY Gerbeau, the London Resort’s CEO.

“But the public has responded overwhelmingly in favour and for that we are deeply grateful. "We will go through all of the feedback and use it to help inform our approach and further develop our proposals.

"But there is no doubting, that our aim of creating one of the most exciting entertainment destinations in the world, here in the UK, has taken another big step towards becoming a reality. We now look forward to submitting our DCO application later this year.”

The consultation, which lasted eight weeks, reached over 120,000 members of the public including 105,000 leaflets, 27,000 people visiting the website plus online webinars.

74% were in favour of the London Resort’s approach to sustainability with 55% showing strong support, and 76% supported the approach to walkways, cycle routes and public rights of way with 54% being in strong support.

When asked the question at the end of the consultation, 16% of responses remained strongly opposed to the masterplan. Of the 64% who stated their support, more than double (44%) were strongly in favour.

“Sustainability is at the core of our vision,” added PY Gerbeau.

“Through the consultation, people were able to digest hundreds of pages of the latest analysis and environmental studies.

"It was also, quite rightly, a topic which engendered a lot of questions. For three quarters of people to be in support of our plans is hugely rewarding; we would like to thank everyone who responded, we are taking all feedback very seriously.”

The theme park will eventually be a two park resort, with the second gate opening in 2029, with 70% of the attractions undercover to deal with the English weather.

The resort will offer six different lands, which will be themed based of its partnerships with Paramount Pictures, the BBC and ITV Studios.

The consultation also revealed details of a 3,500 room hotel, a 'High Street' featuring shops and restaurants, as well as two ferry terminals to take guests into the park via water.

Economically, the park promises to create 9,000 direct jobs and 20,000 indirect ones within the first year of opening, and nearly doubling after 15 years.
