The number of new coronavirus infections in Redbridge has jumped to more than 200 in a week.
Alarming new figures show the rate of infection in the borough is continuing to rise, with no sign of slowing.
Between September 18 and 25 – the most up-to-date accurate figures – 209 new cases were confirmed at an infection rate of 68.5 cases per 100,000 population.
The week before there had been 134 new cases in the borough which has an approximate population of 300,000 – an infection rate of 43.9.
There is no defined level of infection that triggers new restrictions, but if an area records more than 50 coronavirus cases per 100,000 people, it is likely extra restrictions will be considered.
Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs King George Hospital in Ilford, recorded eight coronavirus related deaths between September 18 – 25.
The trust has reported 439 total deaths.
In Waltham Forest, the rate of infection has also risen dramatically.
In the seven days to September 25 there were 114 new lab-confirmed cases at a rate of 41.2 per 100,000 up from a rate of 27.8 (77 cases) the week prior.
