More than 80 firefighters battled to subdue a raging warehouse blaze in the early hours of the morning.

London Fire Brigade was called to a fire at a warehouse in Argall Avenue, Leyton, at about 1.30am this morning (Tuesday, September 22)

The first floor of the two-storey warehouse was destroyed by the blaze and most of the roof was also damaged by fire.

Fire crews cooled 10 gas cylinders which, in the heat of the inferno, were a threat to explode.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Station Commander Karl Smith said: "On arrival crews faced a well developed fire with the ground, first and roof of the warehouse alight. They worked hard in hot conditions and made steady progress in bringing the blaze under control."

Fire crews from Leyton, Homerton, Walthamstow, Stoke Newington, Bethnal Green, Hornsey, Leytonstone and Tottenham fire station reported the fire under control by 5am.

The cause is under investigation.
