Boris Johnson has hit south Essex for six with the new coronavirus rules this month.

As Covid rules become tighter, we are now limited to meeting in groups of six or less.

Social gatherings of more than six have been made illegal by the government since September 14, with some exceptions, amid a rise in coronavirus cases.

The law change bans groups of more than six from meeting inside or outdoors and is being enforced through a £100 fine if people fail to comply, doubling on each offence up to a maximum of £3,200.

We figured we could help with some ideas on what to do in south Essex without breaking the rules:

Have a go at clay pigeon shooting

Clay pigeon shooting is on the list of exempted sports, however, if you are visiting a facility to shoot then the rule of six still applies.

Clay pigeon shooting involves shooting flying clays with a shotgun and is a safe, controlled and challenging sport.

The Big Shoot in Wickford is suitable for all abilities from complete beginners to the experienced shot.

Prices start at £43.99 per person and following the latest government advice groups of five or less of mixed households, or more with the same  household are able to book - this forms six people including the instructor.

Relax and enjoy some crafty pottery painting

Although many pottery painting cafes are not taking in-store bookings many like, Firing Imaginations in Southend have kits you can enjoy at home.

From the comfort of your home or garden, you can paint a variety of ceramics from ornaments to mugs and plates to money boxes.

Grab five of your loved ones, get some snacks and try out the awesome takeaway service.

Prices start at £8 an item which come with a free brush and plate palette.

Try and get out of an escape room

Echo:

Do you and your friends have the patience and brain-power to get out of an escape room? If you’re up for the challenge then why not give it a go.

There are a range of escape rooms to try in south Essex, including Escape which has stores in Basildon and Southend.

There are two rooms to choose from at Escape in Southend featuring the 'carnival of curiosities' or 'the magic prison of Azcatraz'.

You have 60 minutes to escape and a group of six costs £90.

Dust off the clubs and get a hole in one

Echo:

An easy way to socially distance yourself is through a game of golf - enjoy the pay and play golf at Castle Point Golf Course in Canvey Island.

A great way to spend a day or just an afternoon, golf is the ideal activity for a catch up with your friends or family and get a bit of exercise.

The price for a one ball tee time starts at £12 and for a four ball the price starts at £40.

Go for fish and chips along the seafront

Echo:

There are a whole host of fish and chip shops to choose from across the south of Essex, but some of our favourites can be found in Southend.

Why not take a stroll along the beach with your friends and catch up over a bag of chips - there really is nothing quite like it.
