A man accused of murdering his wife at their home in Bexley has appeared at the Old Bailey.

Leslie Winnister, 68, was found in a pub after allegedly killing his 66-year-old wife Suzanne Winnister last Tuesday evening.

The victim was discovered by family members at the couple's home in Becketts Close and was pronounced dead at the scene after police and paramedics arrived.

Prosecutor Bill Emlyn Jones told the Old Bailey on Tuesday that Mrs Winnister was killed in a "serious violent assault causing fatal injuries to the head and neck".

White-haired Winnister appeared in court by video link from High Down prison in Surrey wearing a pale blue sweater and sipped from a mug during the brief hearing.

Judge Nigel Lickley QC remanded him in custody ahead of a plea hearing on November 30, when Winnister is expected to appear in person.
