A further education college has confirmed that a member of staff at Bromley campus has tested positive for coronavirus.

London South East Colleges is still encouraging students to attend, them all college site remain open and that any staff members affected are in self-isolation.

No students have been affected so far by the infection.

A London South East Colleges spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a member of staff at London South East Colleges’ Bromley campus has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We are working with Public Health England and following all guidance necessary to ensure the College environment is as safe as possible – including deep cleaning and self-isolation of staff who have come into close contact with the individual. No student is affected at this time.

"All the college sites remain open at this time and students and staff can continue to attend as normal, providing of course that they are not displaying any symptoms of Covid-19.

"Public Health England is satisfied that the College is taking appropriate measures and together we are keeping the situation under close review. Social distancing is in force across our campuses, extra hand sanitising is in place and all staff/students are required to wear masks in communal areas.

London South East Colleges has eight campuses across south east London, in Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich and Orpington.

The latest Government guidance advises that students must not return to their family home if stricter measures become necessary amid local outbreaks.

The updated guidance - published in the early hours of Thursday - comes as thousands of students prepare to return to campus for the start of term.

Institutions must have a plan in place that "assumes there is likely to be an increase in the number of cases, or an outbreak associated with their setting", the Department for Education (DfE) said.
