POLICE cracked down on bicycle thefts during a day of action.

Officers in Worthing launched additional patrols on Thursday and made an arrest after noticing a man acting suspiciously in Chapel Road.

They chased him for almost a mile, catching up with the suspect in Rowlands Road and making an arrest.

Alexander Nash, of no fixed address, has been arrested. He was later charged with the theft of a pedal cycle.

The 27-year-old will appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on December 1.

PC Chris Corker said: “The day of action from the team is part of ongoing work aimed at tackling bike thefts across the Worthing area.

“We are utilising a number of overt and covert tactics to deter this behaviour from continuing in our communities.

“Anyone with any information regarding bike thefts is encouraged to contact police on 101, online or via Crimestoppers.”
