A pub in North Kent has temporarily closed its doors after they had a confirmed case of Covid-19 inside the building last week.

The Kings Arms in Meopham is currently in the process of contacting all customers who have visited within the last 21 days after announcing its closure on Monday, August 31.

In a statement on social media, the village pub said they "take the responsibility of our patrons' health extremely seriously and with regret, we have decided to implement a temporary closure while investigations are carried out."

The Kings Arms Team also said they were "incredibly grateful" to the community for its compassion and support, and that it is now testing every single staff member for the virus.

The confirmed case of coronavirus was last inside the pub on Thursday, August 27, and the owners are is now trying to put together a timeline, which is difficult given that the virus can take up to 14 days to develop into symptoms.

"And in that time the confirmed case could have been contagious, has been in the building and therefore around most of our staff," the statement said.

"So all of our staff were tested yesterday and we should have the results by tomorrow at which point we will contact if any, the relevant people, who were in the building, who could have been at risk.

According to guidance, the pub said, you will only need to self isolate if you are considered a close contact.

The government websites states this is within 6ft for more than 15 minutes and the track and trace website lists amongst other examples, face to face contact (within 1m for 1 minute).

So far, four out of four staff members at the venue have tested negative, with 14 test results still to go.

The team are contacting everyone who has been inside the pub in the last 21 days and had registered using track and trace to give out information and advice, and they say they will endeavour to update everyone as soon as possible.

In their statement, the owners also said: "We'd like to thank you for all of your kind words, understanding and amazing support.

"We are incredibly grateful to the community for their compassion at what is proving to be a very worrying time for all concerned."
