Two men have been arrested and charged after eight police officers were assaulted and even spat at in a violent incident at a pub in Dartford.

Kent Police were called to the Clipper on Friday around 3:15pm on August 28, after two men were reported to be acting aggressively towards staff and customers.

In the ensuing fiasco, seven officers and one police community support officer were assaulted as they tried to bring the two men into custody.

A number of them were also spat at as both were arrested, and police found one of the men to be in possession of a Class A drug.

Keenan Fairclough, 19, of Clive Road, Rochester, has since been charged with seven counts of assaulting an emergency worker and one count of causing criminal damage to a police cell.

The second man, Taylor Carter, 25, of Wrotham Road in Gravesend, has been charged with three counts of assaulting an emergency worker and one count of possessing a Class A drug.

Both men were remanded in custody when they appeared before Medway magistrates on Monday 31 August.

Mr Carter will return to the same court on Tuesday 8 September while Mr Fairclough will next appear at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 17 September.
