Firefighters rushed to tackle the latest in a string of fires in Dartford Heath last night in a suspected deliberate arson attack.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire engines to tackle the blaze at around 8:45pm, August 26, and found an area of underground was found alight.

The heathland blaze had spread to an area of around 60 square metres, and firefighters had to use fire beaters and a flogging unit to extinguish the flames.

The fire service said: "No casualties were reported.

"The cause is believed to be deliberate."

This is not the first incident of its kind, and firefighters have dealt with several blazes on Dartford Heath over the last few weeks.

Dartford Council said it had been made aware of a number of fires on the heath, and is working with tghe fire brigade and Kent Police to crack down on deliberate fires.
