A burst water main brought travel disruption to Bickley in Bromley amid more general flooding in South London today (August 25).

A giant puddle of brown water flooded a residential area of Bickley Road Tuesday afternoon and prompted a reaction from emergency services.

Officers from the Bromley branch of the Metropolitan Police were forced to close the road between Page Heath Lane and Chislehurst Road, while a fire engine was seen attended to the scene nearby.

Informing followers of the travel disruption in the area and their response, a spokesperson for the borough police force said:

"Bickley Road is closed between Page Heath Lane and Chislehurst Road due to flooding caused by a burst water main. Please use an alternative route."

The water main flood on Bickley Road compounded travel woes for Londoners across the South of the city on Tuesday amid widespread flooding.

Homes in Kingston and Merton were flooded after heavy rains brought on by the approach of Storm Francis Monday and much of the flood waters persisted through Tuesday.

Meanwhile the Met Office issued Yellow weather warnings for more heavy rain and strong winds into Wednesday.
