A man has been charged with three offences after he allegedly violently attacked two police officers in Dartford, leaving them with cuts to the face and bruising to the neck.

John Ellis, 41, is alleged to have assaulted a Police Constable and a Special Constable after they stopped him on Suffolk Road around 2:20pm on Tuesday, August 18.

He was stopped in connection with another criminal investigation which is being carried out by another police force when he reportedly became violent.

A second person, a 25-year-old woman from Dartford, was also at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of obstructing a police officer, as well as possessing a knife in a public place and possessing cannabis.

John Ellis, of Princes Road, Dartford has been charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency services worker and resisting arrest.

Folowing the assault, the PC reported sustaining cuts to his face that were treated at a local hospital, whilst the Special is said to have sustained bruising to his neck.

Ellis has been remanded in custody to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 20 August.

The woman has been released on bail, pending further enquiries, until Wednesday 16 September.
