Police and the courts have worked hard over the last three months to bring a number of sex offenders in South London and North Kent to justice despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The guilty include rapists, paedophiles and other sex offenders, many of whom were sentenced for a number of years.

One of those sentenced most recently was "dangerous" paedophile James Jewell, 36, of Brymer Road, Puddletown, Dorchester.

As News Shopper reported previously, Jewell was found guilty of a plethora of heinous sex crimes including six counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, aiding and abetting the sexual assault of a child and aiding and abetting an offender to engage in sexual activity with a child.

He was also convicted for three counts of making indecent images of a child and two counts of distributing indecent images of a child.

Jewell was jailed for life on August 13.

The charges related to offences which occurred in Greenhithe and Tunbridge Wells between November 2017 and July 2018, where Jewell encouraged two women he met online to carry out sexual abuse of children.

One of the women involved in Jewell's sex crimes was Kirsty Kimber.

Kirsty Kimber, 26, of York Road, Tunbridge Wells, was jailed for more than nine years in February after pleading guilty to six counts of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of taking indecent photographs of a child and three counts of distributing indecent photographs of a child.

Concerns were raised on 20 July 2018 after videos were found by a friend on a mobile phone of her abusing a child.

Police said she was found to have shared these videos via an instant messaging app with Jewell.

Another sex criminal found guilty in South London this year was Thamesmead man Charles Westpfel.

The Met Police's specialised 'Jigsaw' team investigates and manages sexual offences, and Bexley MPS paid tribute to the team on Twitter after an 18 hour shift in late July saw Westpfel successfully remanded in custody.

Westpfel was charged with one count for breach of sexual harm prevention order, and three counts of Section 4A public order (intentional harassment, alarm or distress),

The Thamesmead man was also charged with two counts of racially aggravated Section 4A public order offences, and one count of racially aggravated harrassment.

Bexley Police said he appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on July 29, and plead guilty to the offences put to him.

He is due to be sentenced in the coming weeks.

Just days after Westpfel was found guilty, a man who raped a woman in Lewisham earlier this year was convicted.

He will be sentenced on Tuesday, 8 September at Woolwich Crown Court.

I August 2019 a woman in her late 20s was targeted by Bulboana and subjected to a serious sexual assault in a wooded area near Catford Bridge Railway Station.

The victim had been making her way home after a night out with a friend but became lost after she was dropped at the wrong destination by a taxi. She recalled suddenly finding herself in an unfamiliar wooded area with an unknown male - later identified as Bulboana.

The sexual attack then took place. She tried to scream but Bulboana stifled her cries by forcing something into her mouth, choking her, before she was able to get away and call 999.

"This was a brutal and extremely sinister attack in which Bulboana preyed on the vulnerability of a lone woman at night," Detective Constable Dean Young said.

"Bulboana is now in custody awaiting sentence for his abhorrent crimes. Sexual offences often inflict lasting trauma on victims, but I hope that Bulboana’s conviction will help the victim’s recovery process," he added.

Back in June meanwhile, a prolific paedophile was jailed after he was found guilty of child abuse offences in London and Kent.
