A new policing team has been brought in by the British Transport Police and Southeastern Railway, making six arrests and reporting half a dozen more for drug offences in its first week.
Officers from the team hit train and tube stations across south east London and Dartford, joining MPS Welling in targeting drug and knife possession and antisocial behaviour on the transport network.
BTP London revealed on Monday, August 10, that a new policing squad called the Metro Team have been introduced as a result of a partnership between Southeastern Railway and the BTP.
In its first week of operations, six people were arrested (pictured), including two for possession of knifes.
Police said a further six people were also reported for drug offences as officers hit stations in Dartford, Abbey Wood and Welling.
The Met Police has been running Operation Avara, a similar though less formalised project targeting ASB on the travel network.
The operation regularly saw arrests and confiscations at major stations in south east London, namely Bexley and Greenwich, with metal detectors, stop and searches and police dogs brought in.
