A borough wide digital festival and competition celebrating Lewisham’s vibrant music and spoken word scene has launched.

Resound Lewisham is inviting poets and musicians to send in entries by video which will be shortlisted by an industry panel before going to a public vote, with prizes up for grabs.

The competition is supported by local businesses and artists, including Brit award nominee, spoken word performer and poet Kate Tempest.

She said: “Lewisham has shaped me as an artist in immeasurable ways, I've spent my entire artistic life responding to things I have learnt from growing up in Lewisham.”

The competition comprises three categories: original song, original spoken word/poetry and cover song.

Each category is then divided into two separate age groups, 11-17 years old & 18 years.

The industry panel will then shortlist entries and the winner from each category will be decided by public vote with prizes and opportunities including recording time in a professional studio, an Apple I-pad, air time and one-on-one mentoring session with Kate Tempest.

Selected entries (18+ years category only) will be shared online to allow the public to look, like and share.

The competition is now open to entrants until 11:59pm on Saturday September 5.
