PLANS have been revealed to make Kendal Snowsports Club the 'best outdoor dry ski slope in the UK'.

The club has submitted proposals to expand the site and increase the size of its slope.

Proposals have been submitted to South Lakeland District Council for consideration.

A statement supporting the application from Kendal Snowsports Club said: “The club has been at capacity, both in terms of indoor space and slope availability, pretty much since its conception.

“Now is the time to plan for the next 20 years – the proposals outlined in this application will help to enable our vision for Kendal Snowsports Club to become the best outdoor dry ski slope in the UK.”

Kendal Town Council acknowledged the proposal, however expressed some concerns around the potential noise complaints the construction might generate for nearby residents.

“The committee did not object to the Ski Club or a potential expansion of the site in principle, and agreed it is an asset for Kendal and the North West providing a valuable leisure service for the town and wider area," they said in response to the consultation.

“However, there was a general concern regarding the scale of the expansion proposals and certain issues such as light and noise pollution for local residents, overlooking/privacy for residents scale and dominance.”

Other concerns included loss of privacy for residents as the new site would overlook homes, and a potential increase in traffic.

The voluntary led organisation was formed in 1984 when a small enthusiastic group put forward the idea of forming a club. The members built their own club on the side of the hill below Kendal Castle.
