A dispersal order is being put in place across Dartford from Friday until Sunday by police concerned about a huge planned meeting of 'car enthusiasts'.

The exact location is of the meet up is not know, but it is due to take place on Saturday evening, prompting concerns from residents.

Kent Police have authorised a borough wide dispersal order for the entire weekend due to try and disrupt the gathering, which they say causes "disturbance and distress to local residents."

Inspector Sarah Rivett, of Dartford’s Community Safety Unit, explained that the dispersal order gives officers the power to remove groups of people who they believe are likely to cause anti-social behaviour.

"Whilst we appreciate there are people who simply want to meet up with friends and who may have an interest in cars, we are also very aware of the disturbance and distress caused to local residents as a direct result of the actions of a small minority of people."

The dispersal order will be enforced from 7pm on Friday, July 31, until 6pm on Sunday, August 2.

The exact location of the gathering is not known by police, so the dispersal order has been put in place covering the entire borough.

The meeting is due to take place on the evening of Saturday, August 1.

Police say they will be able to disperse people and vehicles from the area for the duration of the order, and once dispersed, these people are not permitted to return during that period.

If they do, they will be liable to further action from police, including the seizure of their vehicles.

"We work regularly with partner agencies to address anti-social behaviour and urge members of the public to continue to report their concerns to us by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.

"It helps us build a picture of where our resources are needed. You can also report issues online."
