A mutilated body of a much loved cat has been found in his back garden in Bexleyheath, and has now been linked by a animal charity to the Croydon Cat Killer.

Marly was sadly found dead on Sunday, July 26, and a veterinary examination has concluded that his injuries were consistent with those inflicted by a person with a sharp implement.

The cat's owner found his cat placed in his garden dead with the injuries, but it is thought the attack happened elsewhere, and there are signs the person responsible had climbed the garden fence to place the body back.

The South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL) have issued a warning following the incident, which Kent Police have been informed of, and have said they are ruling the attack as part of their investigation.

The leading animal charity investigates animal killings in the UK, but is based in South Norwood, and has led the search for the infamous 'Croydon Cat Killer.'

After a three-year investigation, the Met Police concluded last year that foxes were most likely responsible for the deaths of around 500 pets, not the UK Animal Killer as the person is also known as.

However, South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL) is continuing its own investigation and its members believe a human is responsible for killing the animals.

This incident has now been added to their investigation, and the organisation has also linked it to an incident in July 2019 where a mutilated rabbit was found in the DA6 area, around two minutes away.

They said they were resuming leafleting, and have asked anyone with information or working CCTV to contact SNARL urgently.

They added: "RIP little one and our heartfelt condolences to his family.

"Our advice remains to keep cats in at night where possible and ensure that outdoor hutches are securely padlocked and gardens as secure as they possibly can be."

Earlier this week a video also circulated of a girl attempting to steal a cat in Cloudsely Road, Slade Green.

SNARL said it does not believe this is in any way connected to the Croydon Cat Killer, but that this is still a worrying incident which needs reporting to the police.
