"The suspects began verbally abusing the boys before punching one of the victims in the head and running off with his headphones," the police appeal read.
Fortunately, a member of the public later intervened and managed to return the stolen headphones to their owner, but the suspects ran off.
Police are now searching for the culprits, who they said are believed to be white males in their "late teens or early 20s" in a statement.
"This was an unprovoked assault on two boys who were minding their own business in the park and I would urge anyone who may have information about this incident, including CCTV footage of the area at the time, to please speak to us," PC Laura Hardie said.
