Patients across south east London have evaluated the services they are provided by their GP through an annual assessment.

The GP Patient Survey has revealed how doctors' surgeries across Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark were rated for 2020.

Residents were asked for their opinion on a variety of elements within practices, including overall performance, ability to get through on the phone, booking appointments and the management of health conditions.

In the NHS South East London CCG area, 89,958 questionnaires were sent out, and 21,695 were returned completed. This represents a response rate of 24 per cent.

Overall, practices in the region recorded an 80 per cent positive satisfaction rating, two per cent below the national average.

The best overall performers

The Villa Street Medical Centre

The best performing practice was The Villa Street Medical Centre, providing services across the Southwark, Peckham, Camberwell and Aylesbury Estate areas, which came out with an overall satisfaction rating of 97 per cent.

Just below was The Nunhead Surgery, a smaller practice, which was rated at 97 per cent.

The Woodlands Practice, based in Chislehurst, received a similar score at 95 per cent, which was matched by Brockwell Park Surgery and Pickhurst Surgery in Bromley.

The worst overall performers

Crook Log Surgery

The lowest ranked practice in the region was Crook Log Surgery, Bexleyheath, which received a rating of 55 per cent.

Ballater Surgery, Orpington, did not fare much better, coming out with an overall satisfaction score of 57 per cent.

Sherard Road Medical Centre, Eltham, and Queens Road Partnership, New Cross, both were rated at 59 per cent.

What about the phone lines?

The Grantham Centre Practice

A total of 64 per cent of residents who completed the survey said their it was 'easy' to get through to someone at their GP practice on the phone, one per cent below the national figure.

The Villa Street Medical Centre again came out on top in this regard, with respondents returning a 98 per cent satisfaction rating, a figure matched by The Grantham Centre Practice, Stockwell.

Brockwell Park Surgery again performed well, with a rating of 96 per cent, which was matched by Lee Road Surgery and Oakview Family Practice, Bromley.

At the other end of the scale, Station Road Surgery, Sidcup, was only rated at 25 per cent, a figure matched by Sydenham Green Group Practice.

Overall experience of making an appointment?

Gillmans Road Surgery

A total of 63 per cent of residents rated their overall experience of making an appointment as 'good', two per cent below the national figure.

Gillmans Road Surgery, Orpington, was rated at 95 per cent, joint with The Grantham Centre Practice, which again performed well.

Close behind was Manor Road Surgery, Beckenham, with a 90 per cent rating.

South Lewisham Group Practice propped up the list with a 36 per cent rating, marginally bettered by Queens Road Partnership, New Cross, and Sydenham Green Group Practice at 37 per cent.

Support in managing health conditions?

London Lane Clinic

Residents were further asked whether they had received enough support from local services or organisations to help you to manage their health condition (or conditions).

In this regard, the overall rating was 73 per cent, four per cent below the national figure.

London Lane Clinic, Bromley, was the best performer in this regard, with a rating of 97 per cent.

Just below were Gillmans Road Surgery, Orpington, and South View Partnership, also Bromley, with a 92 per cent score.

At the other end, Abbey Slade PMS, Abbey Wood, came out with a 42 per cent rating, a figure marginally improved on by Hilly Fields Medical Centre and Queens Road Surgery, with 45 per cent.
