SALISBURY Hospice Charity will star on the city’s special Monopoly game after being voted for by the public.

The charity, which is one of three that will feature, will get to be immortalised on the board game when it is released in late October.

The hospice will now get to take on a starring role on its very own Community Chest square.

The charity has been supporting patients and their families in the city since 1981, and look after up to 1,000 patients a year.

A delighted Paula Flower, head of fundraising for the charity, said: “We are thrilled and excited to be playing a part in this Salisbury version of the iconic board game.

“Being a huge part of our community, it is great to be – literally - put on the map: the Monopoly map! We would like to thank everybody who voted for us, it is a real honour.”

Two other yet-to-be-announced city charities will appear on the board too.

A spokesperson for Winning Moves UK, makers of the new game under license from Monopoly owners Hasbro, said:“The three Salisbury charity Monopoly spaces were our way of thanking the public for getting behind the game so very enthusiastically.”

Earlier this year, it was announced that Salisbury was to get its own game after seeing off a host of other places across the UK in a nation-wide “beauty contest”.

Mr Monopoly came to the city to break the news, and since then the makers have been busily putting the edition together and confirm that the game will hit the shops later this year.

The spokesperson added:“We hope the game can go some way to lifting spirits in this most unprecedented of times. We have been working on this game since the start of the year and are delighted it will be in shops in October.

“We would like to formally thank each and every person who sent in nominations.”
