Kent Police said that they had previously arrested the suspect on Milton Road in Gravesend just before half past three on Wednesday afternoon.
He was apprehended by police in connection to a shoplifting offence.
After police made their initial arrest the man, whose identity was still unknown as of 7pm, proceeded to "assault an emergency worker" for which he was arrested again over that offence.
In a statement sent in response to a request from News Shopper, a spokesperson for Kent Police revealed that he had since been taken to hospital "as a precaution" after the incidents:
"At around 3.25pm on Wednesday 1 July 2020, Kent Police officers arrested a man in Milton Road, Gravesend, in connection with an earlier shoplifting offence.
"The man was then further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker before being taken to a local hospital as a precaution."
The news came just hours after News Shopper revealed arrests made in Gravesend following a "mass brawl" on Wrotham Road.
Kent Police are still appealing for information on the mass brawl event.
