Full list of Covid-19 rates across south east London

Public Health England have released new data showing Covid-19 rates across the country, revealing that Bexley currently has the most cases out of the south east London boroughs, but all are currently relatively low on the risk register.

The data shows the latest and most complete information on new, weekly Covid-19 cases in England, ranked by local authority or borough.

The figures represent the rate of new cases in each area, based on coronavirus tests carried out in laboratories and in the wider community for the week ending June 21.

For example, Bexley currently has 4.5 cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 population, the most of any south east London borough but outside the top 50 areas with the highest infection rates.

Greenwich currently has 3.1 cases per 100,000 people, Bromley 2.1 and Lewisham 2.0.

Whilst this shows that the virus still lingers, the figures suggest that the four boroughs are in the safest half of the country, and far safer than Leicester which has a whopping 140.2 cases per 100,000.

Behind Leicester, which is now in its own miniature lockdown due to a surge in cases, are Bradford (69.4) and Barnsley (54.7).

Despite the capital quickly emerging as the epicentre of the disease outbreak in March, not one London borough currently has over 10 cases per 100,000 people, with Kensington & Chelsea the highest with 7.7.

Kent sits reasonably high on the leaderboard with 13.5 cases, Southwark has 3.5, and Croydon has 1.6.

Boris Johnson is now under pressure from leaders of regions with higher infection rates over preventing further flare-ups in order to avoid following Leicester into local lockdown.

Earier, Boris Johnson was accused of being slow to respond to the coronavirus outbreak in Leicester, resulting in the city being forced into a local lockdown on Monday evening.

Shortly afterwards, Walkers crisps confirmed there have been 28 positive cases of Covid-19 at its factory in Leicester.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer accused the Prime Minister of presiding over a "lost week" when action could have been taken in the first real test of Mr Johnson's "whack-a-mole" strategy for tackling coronavirus clusters.

The Full List

The figures, published by Public Health England, show the rate of new cases in each area, based on tests that have been carried out in laboratories (‘pillar 1’ of the Government’s testing programme) and in the wider community (‘pillar 2’).

As such the figures gives a more comprehensive overview of the country than the daily figures for local areas that are published on the Department of Health website, which are based only on pillar 1 testing.
