The M20 was shut down this morning after a lorry veered into the central reservation and overturned, leaving it strewn across both carriageways.

The incident happened on the coastbound carriageway between J1 for Swanley and J2 for Wrotham, with emergency services rushing to the scene just before 6am, June 18.

Pictures from Kent Police RPU show a lorry's trailer and cab tipped over and blocking part of the M20.

Highways England has told people to avoid the area and delays are expected for some time, although the lanes have now reopened.

Police said: "Officers are at the scene of a collision on the M20 between junctions 1 and 2.

"Kent Police was called at around 5.35am following the collision involving a lorry and a car.

"The coastbound carriageway and one lane on the Londonbound carriageway are currently closed traffic while emergency services arrange for recovery of the lorry."

Kent Police RPU also issued a warning on Twitter after officers saw some drivers passing the scene of the lorry crash with their phones out filming.

Police said that anyone filming shouldn't be surprised if they get caught and end up witb a fine.
