The face of iconic communist revolutionary Che Guevara has been spotted on a tree in Bromley woodland, just a "stone's throw" from Nigel Farage's house.

Gerald Russell, 62, was ambling through Blackbush Shaw when he noticed what he initially thought was the work of a vandal.

On closer inspection days later, he realised one of the most famous images in history was staring back at him in the form of moss.

News Shopper:

Mr Russell said: "I thought it very artistic, but at the same time I was annoyed that someone would deface a tree like that.

"It was only several walks later that we realised it was actually some sort of moss.

"Che Guevara was our first impression. I didn't really know too much about him until I googled him the other day, although I have seen his picture many times over the years.

"Amusingly, it is within a stones throw of Nigel Farage's house!"

The natural formation closely resembles a photo of Che, known as Guerrillero Heroico (Heroic Guerrilla Fighter), taken in Havana, Cuba.

By the end of the 1960s, following Che's execution in Boliva, it had already become an iconic symbolic representation of the revolutionary spirit.

News Shopper imagines it is unlikely Nigel Farage, who lives nearby in Downe, will be making a pilgrimage to the site.

While Guevara's likeness is strongest, it is possible to interpret the moss differently.

Mr Russell added: "Che Guevara is always there, but the woman's or horse's head to the right depends on the angle you look at it."
