Bexley's own Emilia Morgan has been named the winner of a lockdown community award scheme after raising money through several charity runs and treating her key worker parents to home-cooked meals, despite being just 13.

The teenager has been named as the latest winner of the Jack Petchey Community Awards, winning a £50 prize and a congratulatory letter.

The award scheme recognises young people from London and Essex who are helping their community during the coronavirus outbreak.

The latest winner is Emilia Morgan, a 13-year-old from Bexley, who has been recognised for "the support she has given to the community and her keyworker parents throughout the lockdown.

Over the past couple of months, Emilia has been raising money for Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospital, who are currently experiencing a major shortfall in funding due to coronavirus.

The 13-year-old has completed multiple sponsored runs around her local park, not only raising funds for the hospice, but also raising support from residents who cheer as she runs by.

Emilia has also been supporting her scout group, hosting virtual meetings and "inspiring others to work towards badges" during lockdown.

And yet she's also been able to treat her parents, both key workers, to home-cooked meals.

Richard Short, who nominated Emilia, said he did so "for her outstanding efforts through the Covid-19 pandemic… I am very proud of her efforts and how strong she is during these difficult times.”

Members of the public are invited to nominate a young person they know via the Foundation’s website www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.uk. Winners will be awarded £50 and a letter from Sir Jack Petchey in recognition of their community spirit.
