Lewisham Council is reintroducing parking charges for everyone except key workers from June 1.

This includes parking in both pay and display bays, as well as controlled parking zones (CPZs).

Free parking for key workers has been extended however, including those working in health and social care, education and childcare, the justice system, religious staff, charity workers, those responsible for managing the deceased, and journalists.

It also includes local and national Government workers, those involved in the production, processing, distribution, sale, and delivery of food, as well as pharmacists and those producing medicine.

Police, the armed forces, national crime agency staff, border force security, and prison and probation staff are all key workers, as well as those working in transport, utilities, communications, and financial services.

“As travel restrictions are eased, our roads are getting busier and there is increased demand for parking across the borough.

“From June 1 our parking charges will resume for everyone except key workers,” a council spokesperson said.

The council announced at the end of March that it would relax parking rules for everyone in the borough amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The move was to make sure residents could park outside their homes during the pandemic.
