A man is being treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a house in Plumstead yesterday.

Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to the blaze on Pegwell Street, Plumstead, at around 7:30am.

It took over an hour for the London Fire Brigade to safely have the fire under control, and one man was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews.

The fire, the cause of which is not yet known, caused damage to half of the first floor and part of the roof of the mid-terraced house.

Four people had left the building before the Brigade arrived.

Fire crews from Plumstead, Bexley, East Greenwich and Erith fire stations were at the scene.

The LFB said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
