A 19-year-old from Plumstead has been arrested and charged with robbery and kidnap over his involvement in an alleged daylight robbery targeting two teenage boys on VE Day.

Kesshai Clarke, 19, has been charged along with fellow Londoner Nathan Gavin Johnson, 22, with two counts of robbery, two counts of kidnap and possession of an offensive weapon.

The charges relate to a robbery investigation in Basingstoke on Friday, May 8.

It is alleged that two teenage boys were walking in Dryden Close, Popley, when a group of males robbed them at around 4:30pm.

The suspects forced the two boys into a taxi which police managed to stop shortly after in Carpenters Down. Cash was stolen.

Police in Basingstoke are still appealing for information, so if you saw what happened, have dashcam or CCTV footage or know any relevant info, please call police on 101 and quote 'Operation Thymus.'

Clarke, of Bannockburn Road in Plumstead, and Gavin Johnson, of Sumner Road in Peckham, were both arrested following the incident.

They have each been charged, and appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on May 10.

A third male, a 16-year-old boy from London, was arrested on suspicion of affray and kidnap and has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

They have since been remanded in custody to appear before Winchester Crown Court on June 3.
