Ten firefighter crews have been battling a blaze in a block of flats in Deptford earlier this morning, May 1, with over 100 people having to be evacuated.

Around 70 firefighters rushed to a 17-storey towerblock on Abinger Grove, Deptford just before 7am after a fire broke out inside a flat on the 13th floor.

The London Fire Brigade said it recieved 22 '999' calls after smoke was seen billowing out of the towerblock in south east London, and found the apartment alight.

A woman and two children fled the affected flat on the 13th floor before firefighters arrived, and approximately 100 other people inside the building where forced to evacuate.

But fire crews managed to contain the blaze just before 8am, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

It is the third flat fire in as many days after a blaze broke out in an underground car park beneath an apartment block in Hither Green on Thursday.
