A Sydenham vicar is running a full marathon in his clerical garb this Sunday to raise money for local families in need.
Reverend Edd Stock, of Holy Trinity, will be tackling the 26-mile distance from inside his vicarage on a treadmill at the same time as he would have run the cancelled London marathon, live-streaming the feat to his congregation,
He will start by leading Holy Trinity’s morning service from 10am.
Revd Stock said: “We have become increasingly aware that for families at Holy Trinity School, the parish school, the weekly £15 food vouchers for children is not enough to support them.
“We have families asking for extra support and we have been sending food parcels out to them, but we can only see the demand for this increasing.
“The marathon attempt is a way of raising funds to enable us to carry on this work during these difficult times.
“We are working with Lewisham Citizens who are fundraising to support the most vulnerable members of our communities with things like food and internet access.”
