A Biggin Hill animal rescue centre is holding a virtual Easter fayre this weekend after coronavirus lockdown forced them to cancel their annual fundraising event.

Foal Farm Animal Rescue Centre takes in sick, distressed and unwanted animals, giving them a second chance at life on its 26 acre plot of land.

This year, the public can meet its horses, cows, goats and dogs on a live stream, as the charity seeks to make up for the loss of crucial funds it has suffered in the pandemic online.

Aimee Howe, fundraising and marketing coordinator, said: "The loss of our annual Easter Fayre was heartbreaking as we put a lot of effort into planning our fundraising events.

"Last year our Easter Fayre raised over £4,000 for our animals.

"Our vet bills alone often exceed £15,000 a month and we use spring and summer to run a variety of fundraising events to help us to support our 300+ rescued animals.

"Due to the current pandemic we have had to close our charity shops and cancel our upcoming events."

By tuning in on Facebook, animal fans can enjoy a tour of the farms various residents, live feeding videos, arts and crafts and much more.

Ms Howe added: "We're looking forward to giving our supporters a well deserved break from the chaos of coronavirus while they join us all day Saturday and Sunday for live streams, virtual tours, competitions and more.

"After all, who can resist our adorable rescued rabbits?

"A typical April half term would see Foal Farm buzzing with people who are excited to see our rescued animals.

"While emails and phone calls and comments on our Facebook posts cannot replace this, it warms our hearts to know that people are sitting in their homes thinking about us at Foal Farm.

"We hope that our Easter Fayre gives people a reason to smile."
