DETECTIVES investigating a murder made a further two arrests today.

Six people have now been held following the death of a man in Whitehawk Road, Brighton on Sunday.

The 25-year-old victim suffered serious injuries and died at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

Four men aged 21, 25, 26 and 41 were held on suspicion of murder.

Now, the police have confirmed that two women, aged 21 and 38 have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

They are all from Brighton, and remain in custody, police say.

Officers were called at 2.30pm on Sunday and neighbours reported a large police presence in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Geldart said: “Our thoughts are with the victim and his family at this very difficult time.

“This is a fast-moving investigation and I’d like to urge people to refrain from speculating on social media.

“If you saw what happened, or if have any information which you think could assist in our investigation, please contact us.”

Previously Chief Inspector Dee Wells of Brighton and Hove Police said: “This is believed to be an isolated incident but local residents can expect to see a significant police presence in the area as our enquiries continue, and I’d like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding. Our officers will be available to speak to anyone with particular local concerns, using the necessary social distancing guidance at all times.
