POLICE are hoping to trace the identities of two people who may have seen a missing boy.

The appeal comes after fresh CCTV emerged in the search for Owen Harding, 16, who left his home in Saltdean on the evening of March 26.

He told his mother he was going to look at the sunset. But friends believe he may be trying to walk to visit his girlfriend, Meg Rhodes, who lives near York, after he was unable to travel by train because of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

Footage shows a person – believed to be Owen ¬– walking along Hamsey Road in Saltdean at 6.15pm on the day he went missing.

It is believed he was heading south in the direction of the A259.

Now, fresh video has come to light which shows two people police believe may have seen Owen as he walked along the road.

Detective Inspector Mark Rosser said: “We have viewed this CCTV footage supplied to us by a member of the public and we believe this could be Owen.

The Argus:

“Within the footage there are two people who may have seen who we think is Owen walking along this road. Do you recognise yourself in the pictures? If this is you, we would really appreciate it if you could make contact with us as you may hold vital information to our investigation.

“It’s been over a week since Owen was last seen or heard from and we are continuing to extensively investigate the circumstances around his disappearance.

“We would like to thank the public for their support in our investigation and while we appreciate people would like to help with our searches, we are urging everyone to abide by Government guidance at all times.

The Argus:

“We are utilising all of our available resources to search locally and will, of course, link up with colleagues across the country if there is anything to suggest that he has travelled out of Sussex.”

Owen is white, around six feet tall, and has short brown hair. It is thought he was wearing a blue round neck jumper, dark joggers and white trainers on the day he went missing.

If you have seen him or know where he is, you can tell the police online or call 101 quoting Operation Chartwell. If you see him, dial 999 immediately.
