TWO men stole £1,000 from a pensioner after knocking on his door claiming to be council workers.

The thieves knocked on an 89-year-old man’s door in Queens Road, Lewes, on March 4 and said they were there to treat his damp.

They then entered the property and left with £1,000 in cash.

Police are now hunting for two suspects described as white 5’8” men speaking with Irish accents.

The first is described as having dark curly hair. He wore dark clothing and shoes and held a tablet computer.

The second is described as having lighter hair. He wore a dirty short sleeve high-visibility jacket with lettering on the back.

Police believe the man in the picture is the second suspect and are appealing to members of the public to help identify him.
