Lewisham’s reuse and recycling centre at Landmann Way in New Cross is closed until further notice.

However, the waste and recycling service for residents will carry on as normal, according to the council, “thanks to the sterling efforts” of its refuse workers.

The council has shut down all its offices and will only be providing critical services amid the Covid-19 outbreak.

Other closures include schools, leisure centres, and entertainment venues – the Broadway Theatre, which was due to shut this summer for works, has closed its doors.

Lewisham Register Office is closed for all services except for registering a death.

Some food banks in the borough have had to close or reduced their opening hours but some remain open, including Lewisham Food Bank, Whitefoot and Downham Community Food Project, and Barley Loaves Food Service.

The Elim Pentecostal Church food bank in Catford is closed, while the food service at St James Church in New Cross is due to close on March 30.

Living Water Christian Church Food Service is now fortnightly on a Wednesday.

The council’s housing service is no longer holding face-to-face meetings but can assess cases by phone if anyone is at risk of becoming homeless.

All Adult Learning Lewisham centres closed on Friday, March 20 until further notice.

“It has been confirmed that GCSE exams have been cancelled this year.

“We will be contacting learners due to take exams when we have more clarity and information.

“We will spend the next few weeks developing online courses for the Summer term.

“These will be available at little or no cost to our learners,” according to the council.
