A second worker based at an Ocado deport in Erith has spoken out over concerns that staff could be spreading coronavirus to delivery customers, due to a lack of precautionary measures.

A warehouse picker approached News Shopper just days after one of his colleagues complained of a lack of procedures in place to avoid the virus spreading.

Ocado had responded by stating that temperature checks of staff had been introduced, as well as increased supplies of hand soap, sanitising gel and antibacterial wipes and spray.

But warehouse picker, who asked to remain anonymous, said staff in Erith have merely been given hand sanitizer and have had no temperature checks upon arrival.

He went on further to say Ocado had failed to provide hazard bins for workers ‘snotty’ tissues.

The employee, who provided company ID to verify he works at Ocado, told News Shopper: "Since the outbreak, I was told I need to self-isolate for 14 days.

"I took the advice and self-isolated however, their policy does not work.

"I have seen countless members of staff carrying tissue wiping their nose and continuing to handle items.

"There are no hazard bins provided for snotty tissues and they claim to test everyone's temperature upon arrival but this is yet to be seen.

"This could potentially spread coronavirus all around the UK."

A spokesperson for Ocado responded: “Safety is our primary focus and we have stringent measures in place to protect our colleagues.

"This includes the introduction of temperature checks across our sites, increased supplies of hand soap, sanitising gel and antibacterial wipes and spray.

"We have made changes to the doorstep delivery procedure to ensure there is no direct contact with our customers.

"Along with our retail partners and the rest of the grocery industry, Ocado plays a pivotal role in ensuring that millions of people in this country have the food and essentials they need.

"We will continue to follow advice from Public Health England and our medical experts to ensure we are responding appropriately to this fast-moving situation.

" The health of our colleagues and our customers are at the heart of every decision.”
