All local assemblies in Lewisham have been cancelled “until further notice” over the coronavirus outbreak.
It remains unclear what the council has planned for other meetings, but two of today's - the overview and scrutiny education business panel and the constitution working party meeting - have been cancelled on the calendar.
The move comes after the Prime Minister significantly ramped up measures to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, banning mass gatherings, telling people to work from home where possible, and anyone who has the virus, potentially has it, or lives with either of the two, should self-isolate for 14 days.
People over the age of 70, or those with a pre-existing condition, will soon be told to stay at home for 12 weeks to keep them safe.
Boris Johnson told everyone to avoid the pub, theatres, and non-essential travel.
“All local assembly meetings have been cancelled until further notice due to Covid-19.
“This includes tonight’s Downham assembly,” the council tweeted on March 17.
