A Sidcup man is raising money for children with cancer after his parents were diagnosed within 18 months of each other.

James Page, 36, is to take on a series of races in aid of raising money for ‘Children with Cancer UK.’

‘Children with Cancer UK’ is the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer.

Around 250 children in the UK, aged 0-14 years, lose their lives to cancer every year.

To raise money, James will take on one of the toughest footraces on earth, 'Marathon Des Sables', later this year.

Mr Page said: “Three years ago, I could not run for 5 minutes without my knees giving way and causing extreme pain.

“I saw a physio, started to train right, stopped drinking alcohol, entered small races and built the intensity.

“I decided to try and raise as much money as possible after both of my parents were diagnosed with cancer.

“I cannot imagine what it would be like for my children to go through what they had.

“I feel incredibly grateful and humbled by people’s generosity.

“I am so pleased I can support such a fantastic charity.”

In just six days, James will run over 250km through dunes and white-hot salt plains.

The event, which was meant to take place in April has reportedly been pushed back to September due to Coronavirus.

James is also set to take part in the London Marathon on April 26 this year.
