A man died and two others were injured after the car they were travelling in overturned in Thamesmead in the early hours of Saturday morning (February 29).

The Met Police said they were investigating after the blue Ford Focus ST car overturned at a roundabout on Western Way in Thamesmead.

Paramedics from London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene and treated all three occupants of the car.

A spokesperson for the Met said:

"Officers were called at approximately 05:15hrs on Saturday, 29 February to reports of a blue Ford Focus ST car overturned at the roundabout on Western Way, junction with Central Way, SE28.

"At this early stage, it is not thought that any other vehicles were involved in the collision,"

Police said the man who died in the crash — thought to have been in his twenties — was pronounced dead at the scene, and they were currently working to inform his next of kin.

As the authorities continue investigating what happened, road closures remain in place on Western Way at the junction with Central Way in Thamesmead.

Two other men who were also in the car when it crashed are currently being treated at hospital, police said:

"Two other occupants of the car – both men, believed aged in their 20s – were taken to hospital for treatment; at this stage it is not thought their injuries are life threatening.

"No arrests; enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing," the Met said.
